Congregational Care

|
|
God has brought each of us to this community for His divine purpose. We
are a unique gathering of people who were
created for living in community, for caring and loving each other. We have been
given a mandate to love the Lord, our God, with all our heart, soul, and
strength. The outward expression of that commitment is our love and care for
each other. At IAC, we strive to
help our congregation through difficult times in practical ways.

you.
I have a prayer request.
There is a crisis, can you help?
There is a need, can you help?
Can you help me find a community
resource?

Two are better than one, because they have
a good return for their work;
10 If one falls down, his friend can help
him up. But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!
12 Though one may be overpowered, two can
defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10, 12 NIV

As Jesus began His ministry He spoke of His calling in Luke 4, quoting
the prophet Isaiah: The Spirit of the
Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He
has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight or the
blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lords
favor. In Matthew 25, the Lord speaks to our responsibility as believers
to care for the needs of His family. I was hungry and you fed me food. I
was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you
welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes. I was sick and you cared for
me. I was in prison you came to visit me
I will tell you the truth,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for
me.

We as the body of believers at IAC are called to follow His example and
respond to the needs of the people of our
congregation, whether they are physical, emotional, or spiritual. The concept
of holistic care is not new. The responsibility of caring for the sick, the
suffering and dying, the widow and orphan in the church, goes back to our early
Judaeo-Christian tradition. Jesus sent his disciples out with instructions to
heal the sick and preach the gospel message of salvation through Christ Jesus.
The ministry of healing and preaching the go hand in hand. It is also important
to remember that healing does not always mean a physical cure. For some there
is a physical healing, for others the healing is emotional, and spiritual.
