Missions

The Missions Team at IAC serves as a catalyst to:
1. Expand God's Kingdom to the utmost parts of the world so that all may come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2. Reach out to our community, our country, to other cultures and to other nations with the Gospel so that all people will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We will do this by:
• praying for other people groups and nations
• supporting short and long term mission outreach
• educating our local church members of mission opportunities

If you have a heart for missions, please contact Justin to see how you can become involved

Soup Kitchen
Our vision is to know Christ and make Him known through humble acts of giving and receiving in partnership with the Colorado College Soup Kitchen. This is a ministry of respect, hearing and responding appropriately to people. Miracles happen when people come together to serve and be served. There are unique opportunities to be Christ's hands and feet. Talking to the guests, learning their names and their stories, making eye contact and shaking hands are key ways we can respect and serve those who are often overlooked. Time commitment can be as little as 1-1/2 hours per month.

Below are some of the missions IAC supports

Poverty, disease, AIDS, and war are causing African children to be orphaned and displaced. The Mustard Seed Project is working with Church and local community officials to establish strong Christian children's homes (orphanages) which provide personal and loving care, the best in health and education. This gives each child a vision of bright hope for a full and productive future. To learn more, visit The Mustard Seed Project

Born of the Mustard Seed Project in 1998, the mission of Bishop John K. Rucyahana's Sonrise Orphans' Ministry is to provide aid to the children of the Shyira Diocese in Rwanda, Central Africa. Thousands of children became orphans as a result of the genocidal massacre which devastated Rwanda over a 100-day period in 1994. An estimated 800,000 people were killed. "Something must be done for these children or we will lose an entire generation", Bishop John said. While the world's focus has moved on, the aftermath of the genocide remains. Initially a project of the Anglican Church, the Sonrise Orphans' School is ecumenical in scope, receiving support from all Christian traditions. To date over $500,000 has been raised. On September 24, 2001, the Bishop's vision of a school capable of accommodating 450 resident and day students came to life. To learn more, visit Mustard Seed Project

Amelia's Orphanage
Amelia's orphanage nestles in a very poor squatter community, Mfuleni, outside Cape Town, South Africa.

Here she lovingly cares for discarded and abandoned children. Many are there because one or both parents have AIDS or have died from it. Their ages range from a few weeks to 21. Some children are HIV positive.

Most people had no hope that these children would reach adulthood, but they do, due to the love and care of primarily Amelia Poswa, a 67 year old dynamic lady who takes all these children, often broken in body, mind & spirit under her wing and love them to wholeness in a family environment.

Amelia gets government aid for only 3 children,(yet she cares for 96+) as she has declined to be declared an "institution" which would prevent her from many of the 'family' things she does, such as allowing the kids to slice a bread in a kitchen!

Through donations from individuals and churches in the USA, a pre-school has been constructed and furnished, catering to 174 children from the home and neighborhood; a local lady was trained to be a Pre-school teacher; food is purchased; school fees are covered for all the school going children (there is no free education in Africa); 5 older boys are attending carpenter classes offered by a nearby ministry.

Celeste Wolfaardt is the main contact in the USA and all donations made to IAC and designated to Amelia's home are tax deductible. Money gets wired to a South African bank account where the home's volunteer physician and a small Board oversee the disbursements of the funds.

The Word for the World is a missionary organization that has as its goal the translation of God's Word for every person in their heart language.
